Within the Kaneland School District community there are 555 students with IEPs and 65 of those students attend an alternative program outside their Kaneland home school. We are working with each of Kaneland’s school PTOs to bring alternative methods to school functions thereby creating opportunities for all special needs children, including those that are in alternative programs, to integrate into general participation in their home school events. Our children are part of a community and should be given the opportunity to participate in the same projects and events as every other community member, regardless of any limitations they may have. Kaneland Special Needs PTA believes typical students serve as models for children with special needs, inspiring language, creative play and friendships. Typical children gain understanding, acceptance and build kindness values.
